The waves at Casablanca

Dar Bouazza · Jack Beach

Dar Bouazza

  • Left Point
  • Intermediate / Advanced
  • 2-8 ft
  • Oct-Mar
  • Crowd 4/5

Dar Bouazza, also called La Bobine, is a left point in the southern suburbs of Casablanca. It's best at low tide on a north-west swell and is one of the better waves near the city.

Watch out for the old wreck, sea urchins, rocks and rips. When the swell is good it gets crowded with local surfers.

Jack Beach

  • Beach Break
  • Beginner / Intermediate
  • 1-5 ft
  • Year-round
  • Crowd 2/5

Jack Beach is a beach break a few kilometres west of Dar Bouazza, with lefts and rights. It's consistent and the waves are mostly easy, so it suits beginners and improvers.

It's usually quieter than the point and close to Casablanca, so it's an easy session if you're in the city.

Beyond the surf

  • Casablanca old medina: The small old medina next to the port, quieter than those of Fes or Marrakech.

Getting to Casablanca and around Casablanca & Rabat

Casablanca (CMN) is the main international airport. Fast trains link Casablanca, Rabat and Kenitra.

  • ONCF train ($4-10): Frequent, comfortable trains between the cities; the Al Boraq high-speed line runs north from Kenitra. Stations are in the city centre; you'll need a taxi to the beaches.
  • Petit taxi ($2-8): Small metered taxis inside each city. Ask the driver to use the meter.
  • Rental car ($25-45/day): Easiest way to reach Dar Bouazza, Bouznika and Mehdia. City traffic is heavy; go early.

Before you go

Booking: Not usually needed, except during big events in Casablanca or Rabat.

Money: Cards work more widely in the cities, but carry cash for taxis and small cafés.

Health: Water quality near river mouths and ports is poor, especially after rain.
