Boilers

  • Right Reef
  • Intermediate / Advanced
  • 3-8 ft
  • Oct-Mar
  • Crowd 3/5

Boilers is a fast right reef near Cap Ghir, about 25 minutes north of Taghazout. It's named after the rusty boiler of an old shipwreck that sits on the reef and marks the takeoff.

It's one of the most consistent waves in the area and picks up more swell than Taghazout. The takeoff is steep and the wave is quick, with hollow sections on good days. The rips are strong and the reef is rocky, so it's for confident surfers.

Draculas

  • Reef Break
  • Advanced
  • 3-8 ft
  • Nov-Mar
  • Crowd 2/5

Draculas is a heavy, shallow reef a short way south of Boilers. It needs a west swell and offshore wind, and on those days it's fast and hollow.

The reef is close to the surface and the rips are strong. It's for experienced surfers only, and a good place to watch from the cliff if you're not sure.

Tamri

  • Beach Break
  • Beginner / Intermediate
  • 2-8 ft
  • Year-round
  • Crowd 1/5

Tamri is a long beach at a river mouth north of Cap Ghir, with banana plantations behind it. It picks up more swell than anywhere around Taghazout, so it's usually bigger, and it's the place to check when the points are flat.

There are lefts and rights along the beach, best at low tide. It's rarely crowded. On big days it gets powerful, but on smaller days improvers can surf it too.

Getting to Boilers & Tamri and around Taghazout & Imsouane

Agadir airport (AGA) is about 40 minutes from Taghazout by taxi. Along the coast, most people use the local buses, shared taxis or a surf camp's van.

  • Airport taxi ($30-40): A fixed-price taxi from Agadir airport to Taghazout. Many surf camps arrange the pickup. Agree the price before you get in, or book through your accommodation.
  • Local bus 32/33 ($0.50-1): Cheap city buses run along the coast road between Agadir, Aourir, Tamraght and Taghazout. Board bags can be a problem on full buses.
  • Rental car ($25-40/day): A car makes it easy to chase swell up the coast and reach Imsouane in about an hour. Park in sight of the beach and don't leave anything in the car.
  • Surf camp van (Included or $10-20): Most camps drive guests to the best spot of the day as part of a surf package. Ask which spots they go to before booking.

Before you go

Booking: Book surf houses ahead for Christmas, New Year and February half-term in Europe, when Taghazout fills up.

Money: Take out dirhams at the airport or in Agadir. Taghazout has ATMs but they sometimes run out at weekends.

Health: Anchor Point, Boilers and Draculas are for experienced surfers; beginners learn at Banana Beach, Devil's Rock and Imsouane Bay. Booties help with sea urchins on the point rocks.

Avoid: Don't leave valuables on the beach or in a parked car, and don't paddle out at the points in the middle of the main peak if you can't handle the size.
