Pantín

  • Beach Break
  • Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced
  • 1-7 ft
  • Year-round
  • Crowd 3/5

Galicia's best-known wave, and host to the Pantín Classic, one of the longest-running surf contests in Europe. Pantín is a wide, exposed beach break catching serious swell from the full North Atlantic window, producing punchy, powerful peaks that hold up well across a wide range of sizes.

The beach's open exposure means it works more consistently than many sheltered Galician alternatives, and its contest pedigree has built a genuinely strong, skilled local surf community around it. Despite being the region's flagship wave, it stays notably uncrowded by the standards of better-known European surf towns.

Come on almost any swell for a satisfying session, this is one of the most reliable options on the whole Galician coast. A great base for exploring Ferrolterra's other beaches and the wilder Costa da Morte further along.

Doniños

  • Beach Break
  • Beginner / Intermediate
  • 1-5 ft
  • Year-round
  • Crowd 2/5

A calmer beach break near Ferrol, backed by a protected coastal lagoon that gives the whole area a distinct, sheltered character. Doniños breaks over sand in gentler, more approachable peaks than the fully exposed Pantín nearby, making it a good complement when the bigger wave gets too heavy.

The lagoon behind the beach is a haven for birdlife and adds a genuinely scenic backdrop to a session here, quieter and calmer than the more swell-battered stretches of this coast. It's popular with families and improving surfers looking for a friendlier introduction to Galician waves.

Come at low-to-mid tide on a small-to-moderate swell for the easiest conditions. A relaxed, pleasant option close to Ferrol's city amenities, and a sensible pairing with a bigger day at Pantín.
