Lembongan's signature wave, named for the rusting hull still visible on the reef. Shipwrecks is a right that draws off the channel and refracts along the coral shelf, sucky and hollow at lower tides, longer and more forgiving with water under it, always with that impossible Lembongan colour: surfing over glass.
Dry-season trades blow offshore, and the wave organises SW swell into clean, readable walls of 3-8ft. The tide game is everything: low tide is expert-territory barrels over visible reef; mid tide opens it to strong intermediates; high can fatten it to almost friendly.
Access is a short paddle from Jungutbatu beach or a two-minute boat drop, most stays on the beachfront have a direct view of the peak, so you'll watch it over breakfast and know exactly what you're getting. Crowd is moderate: day-trippers from Bali arrive late morning and leave by four, gifting locals and overnighters the golden hours. Board: everyday shortboard; step-up for solid pulses. Watch the channel current on big days.

The name is a legal disclaimer. Lacerations is a fast, hollow right over very shallow live coral on the inside of Lembongan's reef, a wave that barrels beautifully and predictably, three metres above the anatomy lesson that gave it its name.
When it's on, mid tide, 4-6ft of SW swell, trades light offshore, it's one of the best barrels in the greater Bali area: a wedging takeoff, an instant almond cylinder, and a clean shoulder to escape before the reef shelves. Eight-second waves you'll describe for eight years.
The takeoff zone is small and the wave breaks in essentially the same spot every time, which concentrates both the reward and the crowd; a handful of surfers is a rotation, ten is a queue. Boat drop from Jungutbatu puts you in the channel, do not misjudge the paddle across at low tide. Board: your barrel board. Booties: yes. Reef cuts here infect fast in the tropics, vinegar, clean thoroughly, and surf again tomorrow.

Exactly what the name promises. Playgrounds is the middle peak of Lembongan's reef trio, an A-frame that offers a rampy right and a longer, wallier left over coral deep enough to forgive most sins. It's the island's honest fun wave, and one of the best intermediate reef classrooms anywhere.
It catches slightly less swell than Shipwrecks, which means on medium days it's playful while the marquee waves work, and on big days it's the sane option when they're heaving. Mid-to-high tide is friendliest. Mornings before the boat traffic and afternoon trades are glassy and gorgeous, the sunset session with the Agung volcano silhouette across the channel is a keeper.
The crowd is the area's most relaxed: learners on the shoulder, intermediates on the peak, longboarders threading between. Day-trip boats moor nearby midday, adding bodies and bonhomie in equal measure. Board: anything, genuinely. Shortboard, fish, mid-length, log all make sense here. If you're island-hopping with mixed abilities, this wave is the reason everyone goes home happy.

Beyond the surf
- Devil's Tear: A limestone cove where swells detonate into spray plumes and rainbow mist. Spectacular at high tide with west swell, keep well back from the edge.
- Dream Beach: A pocket of white sand and turquoise water on the island's south coast, with a clifftop infinity pool open to visitors. Strong currents, swim close in.
- Yellow Bridge & Nusa Ceningan: Cross the famous yellow suspension bridge by scooter to Ceningan's Blue Lagoon, cliff-jump platforms and seaweed farms. A half-day island within the island.
- Manta Point snorkelling trip: Boat trips from Jungut Batu to swim with reef mantas off Nusa Penida's cliffs, usually paired with the mangrove and Crystal Bay. Mantas resident year-round.
